Lay Day Law and Legal Definition
Lay day is a term of maritime law contracts. It is the day fixed for the loading or unloading of cargo from a ship. Generally lay day starts when the ship issues a certificate of readiness to load or to unload. Lay day is also referred to as lay time or lay hours.
