Legal Permanent Resident Law and Legal Definition
Legal permanent resident refers to a person, whom the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service has granted permission to permanently reside in the U.S. as an immigrant.
A legal permanent resident who remains outside the U.S. for over one year without a valid reentry permit may be jeopardized his/her legal resident status. When such a person wishes to return to the U.S. as a legal resident, s/he must obtain a new immigrant visa petition or file an application for a Returning Resident (SB-1) visa.
