Lighterman Law and Legal Definition
According to 19 CFR 112.1 [Title 19 Customs Duties; Chapter I U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Department of Homeland Security; Department of the Treasury; Part 112 Carriers, Cartmen, and Lightermen], lighterman is one who transports goods or merchandise on a barge, scow, or other small vessel to or from a vessel within the port, or from place to place within a port.
