Line-item Veto Law and Legal Definition
Line-item veto is the power of the executive body to nullify or cancel specific provisions of a bill. This is usually used in case of budget appropriations. Thereby vetoing is only a special provision and not an entire legislative package. The line-item vetos are usually subject to the possibility of legislative override as are traditional vetoes. Line-item veto is also known as partial veto.
The line-item veto is usually held by the state governors in the U.S..
