Line of Duty Law and Legal Definition
Line of duty means any action that a public safety officer is normally required to perform in some area of responsibility. It includes those actions which a public safety is authorized or obligated by law, rule, regulation, or condition of employment or service to perform. The line of duty of a public safety officer includes crime control or reduction, enforcement of the criminal law, or suppression of fires.
