Literal Construction Law and Legal Definition
Construction means the process of interpreting the intention of a writing such as: a statute, opinion, or instrument. Literal construction is an interpretation that takes into account only the literal words of a writing. It is also termed as strict construction or literal interpretation.
A literal construction does not allow evidence extrapolated beyond the actual words of a phrase or document. Such a construction takes a phrase or document at face value, giving effect only to the actual words used.
