Malum Prohibitum Law and Legal Definition
Malum Prohibitum is a Latin term meaning “wrong due to being prohibited.” It is used to describe something that is wrong because it is expressly forbidden by law but not inherently evil. An offense that is malum prohibitum, may not appear on the face to directly violate moral standards. Examples of mala prohibita include public intoxication, carrying a concealed weapon, speeding, tax avoidance, etc.
