Maritime Employment Law and Legal Definition
Maritime employment refers to an employment or a job that is related to the loading, unloading, construction, or repair of a vessel. Maritime employment is an occupational concept that is dependent upon the nature of the employee's activities. The purpose of the work determines whether a job constitutes to maritime employment. Here, particular skills used are irrelevant in deciding if a job falls under maritime employment. However, under maritime employment, a person’s activity should have a realistically significant relationship to traditional maritime activity.
