Med-Arb Law and Legal Definition
Med-arb, a combination of mediation and arbitration is a short-hand reference to the mediation-arbitration procedure. In med-arb procedure, the parties to a dispute mutually agree to mediate the dispute with an undertaking that, if the issues are not settled through the mediation then they will resolve the dispute by arbitration. They also agree that the same person will act both as mediator and arbitrator. The med-arb process includes the standard procedures of a basic mediation without pleadings, discovery, subpoenas, and the other formalities that are common to binding arbitration.
