Metal theft refers to an act of committing theft of metal items on a large scale. The worldwide increase of prices for scrap metal is one of the reasons why metal theft is committed in a large scale. The defining characteristic of metal is the motivation for the theft. In metal theft metals are stolen for their more or less extrinsic value as raw material or commodities. A metal stolen are ultimately scrapped, or recycled, to provide material for making new products.
