Mittimus Judgment Law and Legal Definition
Mittimus judgment is a formal document containing an order in writing issued by the court directing the responsible officer to present a convicted person in a criminal case to the department of correction for incarceration. It also contains a direction to the jailer or other appropriate official to receive and safely keep the person until his/her case shall be determined by due course of law. Mittimus in a criminal proceeding is similar to an execution in a civil proceeding. It is also called a Mitt.
