Multi-State Lottery Association [MUSL] Law and Legal Definition
The Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL) is a non-profit, government-benefit association owned and operated by agreement of its 33 member lotteries. MUSL was created to facilitate the operation of multi-jurisdictional lottery games, other drawing games, instant (scratch) tickets, and video lottery terminals (slots) between lotteries. Each MUSL member offers one or more of the games administered by MUSL. All profits are retained by the individual lotteries and are used to fund projects approved by the legislature authorizing each lottery. The Multi-State Lottery Association also owns and holds various intellectual properties for the sole benefit of its members. These include patent, copyright and trademark registrations on games, game names, game features, slogans, logo designs and many other intellectual properties in and outside the U.S.
