Pacifism refers to a moral principle that the use of force is wrong for any reason. The principle applies to both the initiation of force, and defensive or retaliatory force. It opposes war or violence. Principled pacifism holds that at some point along the scope from war to interpersonal physical violence, violence becomes morally wrong.
