Parent Application [Patent] Law and Legal Definition
Parent application is an earlier application of the inventor disclosing a given invention. It is the first-filed application in a chain of later filed continuation or continuation in part applications. An application becomes the parent application when another type of application is filed. Provisional applications are not usually taken as parent application.
