Parent (Probate) Law and Legal Definition
Parent is a living being from which younger ones are obtained.
Under probate law, parent includes any person entitled to take, or who would be entitled to take if the child died without a will, as a parent under the Probate Code by intestate succession from the child whose relationship is in question. The Code excludes a person who is only a stepparent, foster parent, or grandparent. [Section 1 201 of Uniform Probate Code]. Parent is "a person who is legally responsible for the control and care of the minor, including a . . . father". In re Gillespie, 197 Mich. App. 440, 444 (Mich. Ct. App. 1992).
