Parochialism means being very narrow in the outlook. One who follows parochialism will be focused on local issues excessively, rather than paying attention to broader side of any issue. This can be applied both in culture and economics. Parochialism is synonymous with localism, regionalism. It is the opposite of universalism. It also means being provincial.
