Patent Search Law and Legal Definition
Patent search is a search made to determine whether a particular invention is novel when it is invented. This is done to check whether an invention may qualify for a patent. A patent search is usually done by searching the database of previously issued patents. Certain types of documents such as journal articles and scientific papers that describe unpatented inventions also would be searched for information on the invention.
