Paternity Suit Law and Legal Definition
A paternity suit is a court proceeding to determine whether a named person is the father of a child. Such lawsuits are usually brought by a mother in order to prove that a named person is the father of her child or the fetus that she is carrying, and obtain child support. Such suits are also known as bastary proceedings, paternity action, or parentage action.
