According to 15 USCS § 5802 (9), [Title 15. Commerce and Trade; Chapter 84. Commercial Space Competitiveness] the term payload means “an object which a person undertakes to launch, and includes subcomponents of the launch vehicle specifically designed or adapted for that object.”
