Penobscot Nation Law and Legal Definition
According to 25 USCS § 1722 [Title 25. Indians, Chapter 19. Indian Land Claims Settlements, Maine Indian Claims Settlement] the term, “Penobscot Nation” means "the Penobscot Indian Nation as constituted in aboriginal times, and all its predecessors and successors in interest. The Penobscot Nation is represented, as of the date of enactment of this Act [enacted Oct. 10, 1980], by the Penobscot Nation Governor and Council."
