Per Autre Vie Law and Legal Definition
French term meaning “for the life of another.” This term is mostly used in property law. Accordingly, an estate per autre vie is a life estate measured by the life of someone other than the grantee. In other words, an estate per autre vie is an estate that one person grants to another only for the duration of the life of a third person. It bequeaths a right (but not title) in property.
