Per My Et Per Tout Law and Legal Definition
Per my et per tout is a phrase from French law which means “By the half and by the whole.” This phrase described the estate held by joint tenants: by the half for purposes of survivorship, by the whole for purposes of alienation. In joint tenancy, each tenant's share is the whole, for purposes of tenure and survivorship [tout], and each share is an aliquot portion for purposes of alienation.
