Permatemp Law and Legal Definition
The term 'permatemp' is used to refer an employee whose status is between a temporary employee and a permanent employee. S/he can not be strictly termed as a temporary employee or a permanent employee. The word derives from the words permanent and temporary. It is relevant with regard to the factors such as job insecurity and lack of benefits for a considerable portion of the workforce.
Abusive permatemp employment situation results when a worker classified as temporary worker works alongside regular employees, doing similar work for a long period without much benefits. The employer does not have direct responsibility towards a permatemp employee. Permatemp employees can be fired or laid off at any time. They do not have career service protection or seniority.
