According to 42 USCS § 5582 [Title 42. The Public Health and Welfare; Chapter 71. Solar Energy; Solar Photovoltaic Energy Research, Development and Demonstration], photovoltaic effect refers to “the physical phenomenon exhibited under certain circumstances by some materials in which a portion of the light energy striking the material is directly converted to electrical energy.”
