Predecessor Law and Legal Definition
Predecessor in the common acceptation, means one who go before or precede another in a given state, position, or office, and does not necessarily express any relation of legal privity.
Predecessor within a legal signification of that word is a question of law and fact. One may be a predecessor of another without the relation of contractual succession. [P. Lorillard Co. v. Peper, 65 F. 597, 598 (C.C.D. Mo. 1895)].
