Prisoner of conscience is a term used in the context of international law. Prisoner of conscience is a person who has been imprisoned for a political or religious reason or other conscientiously held belief or by reason of ethnic origin, sex, color or language. Prisoner of conscience also refers to any person who is physically restrained from expressing any opinion which s/he honestly holds and which does not advocate any form of personal violence.
