Professional Certification Law and Legal Definition
Professional certification is a designation earned by a person which shows that s/he is qualified to perform a job or task. Professional certification is also known as trade certification or professional designation. Certifications are usually earned from a professional society or educational institute, and not the government. In the U.S., professional certificates are issued by state agencies. Professional certificates are valid for a specific period of time and must be renewed periodically. Professional certifications are common in areas such as health care, aviation, construction, technology, and other industrial sectors.
