The term professional review action in the context of health care means an action or recommendation made by a professional review body while conducting professional review. A professional review action or recommendation is made on the basis of the competence or professional conduct of a physician whose conduct affects or could affect adversely the health or welfare of a patient, and which affects or may affect adversely the clinical privileges or membership of the physician in a professional society. A professional review action includes a formal decision of a professional review body not to take an action or make a recommendation including professional review activities.
