Prosthetic Devices Law and Legal Definition
According to 42 CFR 440. 120 [Title 42, Public Health, Chapter IV,Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, Department of Health and Human Services, SubChapter C, Medical Assistance Programs, Part 440, Services, General Provisions, Subpart A, Definitions], prosthetic devices means “replacement, corrective, or supportive devices prescribed by a physician or other licensed practitioner of the healing arts within the scope of his practice as defined by State law to:
- Artificially replace a missing portion of the body
- Prevent or correct physical deformity or malfunction; or
- Support a weak or deformed portion of the body".
