Protective Tariff Law and Legal Definition
Protective tariff is a tariff designed primarily to give domestic manufacturers economic protection against price competition from abroad, rather than to generate revenue. It is maintained at such a high rate as to discourage importation, thereby relieving an American industry of competition from abroad.
