Prototype Building Law and Legal Definition
According to 10 CFR 434.201 [Title 10 – Energy; Chapter II -- Department of Energy; Subchapter D -- Energy Conservation; Part 434 -- Energy Code for New Federal Commercial and Multi-Family High Rise Residential Buildings; Subpart B -- Definitions], the term prototype building means “a generic building design of the same size and occupancy type as the proposed design that complies with the prescriptive requirements of subpart D of this part and has prescribed assumptions used to generate the energy budget concerning shape, orientation, and HVAC and other system designs.”
