Skilled Care (Health Care) Law and Legal Definition
Skilled care means care that requires skilled nursing or a licensed healthcare professional’s medical knowledge, technical training, management, observation and evaluation. Skilled care is generally given upon the order of a physician depending upon severity of illness as well as insurance coverage. Skilled care is also given on a long term basis if a resident requires injections, ventilation or other treatment of that nature. Examples of skilled care are complex wound care, movement training, and intravenous therapy. Skilled care helps patients transition from illness and dependence to wellness and self-care.
