SMART Law and Legal Definition
SMART is the abbreviation for Sex Offender Sentencing, Monitoring, Apprehending, Registering and Tracking Office. SMART is a component of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs. SMART was established pursuant to the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act. This office is also known as SMART Office. This office was established to administer standards for sex offender registration, grant programs, and assistance to states.
SMART’s mission is “to protect the public by supporting the national implementation of a comprehensive sex offender registration and notification system.”
