Sokaiya Law and Legal Definition
Sokaiya is a group of individuals unique to Japan who extort money from or blackmail companies by threatening to publicly humiliate companies and their management, usually in their annual meeting. They create havoc at the annual meetings of Japanese companies unless the companies pay them not to attend the meetings. They are also known as corporate bouncers, meeting-men, or corporate blackmailers.
