In the U.S., the term sophomore is used to describe a student in the second year of study. Generally, the term is used referring to high school or university study. Usually, the 10th grade is considered as the second year of a student's high school period. It is referred as the sophomore year. In the high school sophomores are expected to begin preparing for the college application process, and increasing and focusing their extracurricular activities. Generally, in colleges students are required to declare an academic major by the end of their sophomore year. College sophomores focus on their career options.
