Speeding Ticket Law and Legal Definition
Speeding Ticket is a ticket issued for driving above the speed limit. Speeding tickets are governed by state laws and regulations.
Most states have adopted the speed limit language from the Uniform Vehicle Code that sets absolute speed limits. Therefore, exceeding the speed limit is illegal per se in these states, regardless of whether or not it is safe. In some states, driving faster than the speed limit is prima facie evidence of unreasonable speed. However, the offender can argue in court that s/he was exceeding the speed limit but should not be convicted because the speed was safe. There are yet another group of states in which there is a state absolute maximum speed and only limits below that are prima facie limits.
