Spent Nuclear Fuel Law and Legal Definition
According to 10 CFR 2.1105 (b) [Title 10 – Energy; Chapter I -- Nuclear Regulatory Commission; Part 2 -- Rules of Practice for Domestic Licensing Proceedings and Issuance of Orders; Subpart K -- Hybrid Hearing Procedures for Expansion of Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Capacity at Civilian Nuclear Power Reactors], the term Spent nuclear fuel means “fuel that has been withdrawn from a nuclear reactor following irradiation, the constituent elements of which have not been separated by reprocessing.”
