Spoils System Law and Legal Definition

Spoils system is referred to the practice of giving governmental jobs to those who worked in a successful political campaign as a reward instead of making appointments on the basis of merit. The winning political party gives government jobs to its workers or voters who took part actively in the campaign. This is common in the U.S. Politics. Spoils system is common in some other nations also. Spoils system is also referred to as patronage system.
