Sponte virum fugiens mulier et adultera facta, doti sua careat, nisi sponsi sponte retracta is a Latin maxim. It means ‘let a woman leaving her husband of her own accord, and committing adultery, lose her dower, unless taken back by her husband of his own accord.’ It states that a woman willingly leaving her husband and committing adultery should lose her dower. However, if the woman is taken back by her husband on his own accord she will not lose dower.
