Spousal-Unity Doctrine Law and Legal Definition
This is also termed as the doctrine of spousal unity or spousal unity rule. Spousal unity doctrine is the common-law rule which implied that a husband and wife were a legal unity. Under the spousal-unity doctrine, the husband had all rights to the possession, management, control, and alienation of property. However, the wife had no interests in property. In relation to Taxation laws, the rule states that a person and that person's spouse are treated as one, but this rule has been repealed.
