Strict Construction Law and Legal Definition
Strict construction refers to the way in which a statute or a written document is interpreted. In this method the document or the statute is interpreted in a narrow sense. This method of interpretation is mostly applied in cases where the language of the statute is ambiguous and unclear. While interpreting a document using a strict construction the exact meaning of the content is considered along with the purpose and intention of the law makers while drafting the law. This term is also known as literal construction.
