Striking a Docket Law and Legal Definition
Striking a docket is an English expression for the entry of the petition, bond and affidavit of a petitioning creditor in an involuntary proceeding for adjudication in bankruptcy. In English practice, it is the initial step in the actions in bankruptcy, which consists in making affidavit of the debt, and giving a bond to follow up the proceedings with effect. When the affidavit and bond are handed over at the bankrupt office, an entry is made in the docket-book, upon which the petitioner is said to have struck a docket.
