Surrender of Copyhold Law and Legal Definition
Surrender of copyhold means the transfer made by a tenant in terms of surrender of a copyhold estate by giving it to the lord in trust for the transferee. In normal practice, the tenant conveys to the lord all interest and title to the estate in trust by approaching the steward of the manor and delivering a rod, a glove, or other customary symbol. The lord will thereafter grant such interest and title to the transferee.
