Swearing Contest Law and Legal Definition
Swearing contest is a dispute in which determining a vital fact involves the credibility choice between the word of an interested witness and another. This is used when the words of the witness’s are irreconcilably in conflict and there exists no other valid evidence. In such a dispute, generally the words of the more reputable witness are taken into consideration. For example, the word of a police officer is taken over a convicted drug dealer.
