Unified Command [UC] Law and Legal Definition
Unified Command or UC is one of two methods to carry out the command function that employs multiple ranking personnel with responsibility for the incident share incident management. UC is used when an incident involves multiple jurisdictions, a single jurisdiction with multiple agencies sharing responsibility, and several jurisdictions with contrasting functional responsibilities and missions. In a UC agencies with different legal, geographic, and functional responsibilities work together effectively, without disturbing individual agency authority, responsibility, or accountability. Accordingly, when a UC is required, Incident Commanders representing agencies or jurisdictions manage the response from a single Incident Command Post.
