An uninsured motorist refers to a person who incurs no liability for the vehicle s/he is operating. In the U.S., hit and run drivers too fall under the term uninsured motorist. When an individual escapes the scene of an accident without leaving any sufficient information to identify the individual is considered uninsured for the purposes of an uninsured motorist provision.
