An unreported economy refers to an economy that is engaged in those economic activities that circumvent the institutionally established fiscal rules as codified in the tax code.
An unreported economy does not report to the tax authority the amount of income that is to be reported. Such an economy clearly shows the tax gap, which is the difference between the amount of tax revenues due the fiscal authority and the amount of tax revenue actually collected.
