Vegetative State Law and Legal Definition
Vegetative state is a state of unconsciousness of a body. This stage persists for weeks at a stretch and puts a person in a state of wakeful non-awareness. This occurs when a person is having severe brain damage.
Vegetative state is opposed to the state of brain death. This is not recognized as death by any U.S. statute. In order to terminate a life support system in a person petitions for the same should be filed before court. There should be ample proof through medical opinion that there is no chance for any recovery of cognitive functions above a vegetative state. The authorities should have opined that it impossible to obtain any improvement.
