Verba Sunt Interpretanda Contra Proferentem Law and Legal Definition
Verba sunt interpretanda contra proferentem is a rule commonly used in the interpretation of writs. The rule says that words used in the writs are to be interpreted against the person using it. When common words are used, their meaning is to be understood in connection with the usage of the word among the same class of people.
However, the rule cannot be used in construction of technical terms. Ignorance of law is not an excuse. So the technical terms are to be understood from its perspective, and not from common man’s view.
