Veterans Employment and Training Service Law and Legal Definition
Veterans' Employment and Training Service or VETS is a component of the U.S. Department of Labor that serves veterans and service members. The VETS provide resources and expertise to assist and prepare them to obtain meaningful careers, maximize their employment opportunities, and protect their employment rights.
The VETS aims to:
a. Serve as the national focal point for veterans employment
b. Increase engagement with employers
c. Help service members transition seamlessly
d. Protect veterans' employment rights through Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA).
e. Invest in VETS' team members
The USERRA requires the Department of Labor's Veterans' Employment and Training Service [VETS] to provide employment and reemployment assistance to any Federal employee or applicant who requests it. VETS staff will attempt to resolve employment disputes brought to investigate. If dispute resolution proves unsuccessful, VETS will, at the request of the employee, refer the matter to the Office of the Special Counsel for representation before the Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB).[ 5 CFR 353.210].
The following is an example of a federal regulation on Veterans' Employment and Training Service:
Veterans' Employment and Training Service (VETS) shall mean the organizational component of the Department of Labor administered by the Assistant Secretary of Labor for Veterans' Employment and Training established to promulgate and administer policies and regulations to provide eligible veterans and eligible persons the maximum of employment and training opportunities according to 38 U.S.C. 2002. [20 CFR 1001.101].
